Fresh off a funny little foray into country music last year, J.Y. Park has returned to his bread and butter. New single Wet acts as a theme to this year’s Waterbomb Festival and also pulls him back to the dancefloor, recalling vinyl pants of days gone by. Of course, this is an artist now well into his fifties in an industry that prizes youth above all else. This has already drawn ire from some (ageist) corners of the internet, but he does a pretty good job with Wet‘s thumping sound.
This being 2026, Wet is allergic to choruses. At this point in the year, it’s rarer for a song to have an actual sung chorus than not, so we’re forced to compare drek against drek. On a drekky level of one to ten, this song’s actually pretty low. Yes, way too much of it revolves around spoken repetition of “wet, wet, wet” and “sweat, sweat, sweat” (very original!), but it’s delivered in a sultry way with the knowing wink of humor that makes JYP’s songs so easy to get into. The heavy percussion feels a couple years too late to be on trend, but that weirdly works to Wet‘s benefit.
The song’s verses are a hodgepodge of singing and talking, tempered by both seriousness and humor. If you’re already charmed by JYP’s personality, it’s a fun little adventure in a discography full of unexpected turns. If you’re not bought in by his schtick, I don’t hear anything in the song that is likely to change that opinion. It’s a relatively tepid bit of summertime fun that will probably work best during the festival it’s meant to soundtrack.

Anyways, it sounds like a cheapass Bollywood song that’s awkwardly shoehorned in the middle of a movie for the sake of sex appeal.

I love it when J.Y.Park is 100% serious but also 100% unserious at the same time, and it’s giving 10/10 lyricism with the “Jay-Why-Papi” included in this song.
Anyway I still like the way JYP expressing himself and just do whatever he wants, but I would be highly appreciated if he could releasing back iconic funk/r&b beat-focused music since his voice and the way he dance (for real) really suit that type of music.

I am just not fond of this kind of sound, but it is well done and at least it is tongue in cheek so I can kinda enjoy it in a parody type way 😂 and I know it will be a riot during festivals !

Damn I did not expect JYPapi would go to Bollywood this summer. I should have hated this song with passion, but this 50-year-olds dude muscles just won me over.

This song is so funny. I think with a more youthful and sultry voice, like Kai, it would probably be passable. I only say Kai because this is basically the same vibe of Wait so. His vocal delivery sounds so funny especially in the prechorus and in the verses where he repeats words, almost like he’s chasing the yearning youthfulness. The chorus is actually not bad but man.. Waterbomb is gonna be entertaining.
