There are a number of acts who have debuted in the past few decades and have dozens of song ratings on this blog. I thought it would be fun to lay these ratings out in chronological order, line-graph style, and take a macro view of their careers so far. Then, similar to my “Underrated K-pop” features, I can average their ratings into one mega-score and place them in a pantheon alongside other acts.
As always, this feature has some rules of its own. I’m including any “Song Review” ratings as part of this graph, including Japanese releases and collaborations with one other artist. I’m not including Buried Treasures or solo/sub-unit releases. For the ratings themselves, I’m using the most current number on this blog, so if a song was part of a “Risers and Fallers” or “Legendary Songs Inauguration” post, that’s the rating you’ll see displayed here. That means there will still be a few ratings here and there I find slightly inaccurate, but it’ll mostly reflect my up-to-date feelings.
Finally, these scores are completely subjective. Feel free to agree, disagree and argue (that’s part of the fun!), but know that this chart reflects the opinion of only one person (me).

Genuine question: is Don’t Mind Me an exception to the non-inclusion of Buried Treasures, or are single albums in general exempted in this rule?

A group that tried to do Y2K but just like the rest of their peers globally, they ended up sounding flat and lacked imagination. on top of that, the livestream didn’t help at all (as a black person, I am surprised they did the livestream and took so long to apologize). Most of their songs don’t match the personalities and skills of the members. Overall, if you’re going to do an style from the past, please use some creativity and use the good aspects of the genre while making smart modern decisions that elevate the said genre. Don’t Mind Me is their best song but still isn’t enough to compete with their peers. Like you said in your Sweet Venom review, elevate and don’t replicate.

For some reason, I’ve always associated Kiss of Life with Sistar, even though they have nothing in common other than having four members. The truth is, the quality of the music between the two groups is worlds apart. Seriously, at the stage Kiss of Life is at now, Sistar was already building an empire. Maybe it’s the aesthetic maturity both groups aspire to. Idk… With each generation of K-pop, there’s been a passing of the torch, and that leads the memory to draw annoying comparisons

Ik! It seems uncertain to me too 😂. Sistar possesses an almost untouchable artistic quality, but I do this with every K-pop group, I draw parallels between them, and I know some users here do the same, sometimes without even realizing it. It’s the expectations we project onto these artists that make us believe there is something more to take in than just following them. The problem is that the quality of the industry has changed a lot. The energy of some of these rookie groups is very promising, I just wish I could see how these idols would fare if we used a time machine and put them back in that era. Ik, it’s absurd, fanciful… But that makes me wonder how many of these groups would survive?
