Rather than contain my “Risers and Fallers” feature to a single post in June, I’m going to share a bite-sized version at the end of each month. This will let me account for more songs and make a nice lead-in to the monthly round-up post.
I anticipate most of these ratings adjustments will be negligible: a 0.5 shift here, a 0.25 shift there. But, it’s a fun way to keep track of how my feelings on songs have changed over time – as well as which tracks currently have momentum on my playlist.
And remember, just because a song is marked as a “faller” doesn’t mean I hate it! Falling from a “9” to an “8.75” is no shame. 9+ rated songs occupy a totally different playlist in my music library, so I’m pretty particular about what qualifies. It’s a high bar.
This month’s feature covers the period from July 21st to August 17th.
RISERS
ARTMS – Blue Blood
Rating: 8.25 → 8.5
KiiiKiii – Pop Off Pop Off
Rating: 7.5 → 8 *Biggest Riser*
NouerA – .exe
Rating: 8 → 8.5
One Pact – U So Hot
Rating: 7.75 → 8
TWS – Soda Soda
Rating: 8.75 → 9
The Wind – Party Like A Rock Star
Rating: 7.5 → 7.75
FALLERS
Kiss Of Life – Sweat
Rating: 7.5 → 7.25
WAYF BOYS – WAYF BOYS DO
Rating: 7 → 6.75
Still only 1 9-rated K-pop song from June 15 to now huh, and not a title track.
And only 3 9-rated songs if you count from start of June, with only one title track.
Not the best K-pop summer so far.

Perhaps the worst, actually…

In the strangest turn of events, ATEEZ’ Bad has now grown on me. Partly cause of San’s tiddie pop but also because the way they pronounce bad sounds more like “paad” which is what we call fart in Hindi. So yes, all I hear is “she’s so fart, fart, fart, fart, fart”…
I’ll prolly give that song a 7 now (6, 7, 8, 7)
As for this month’s risers or fallers, .exe is the same rating for me now, Hootie Frutti is a 5.25 and This or That has fallen to a 7.25 from a 7.75. I think that pretty much covers it.

Pop Off Pop Off and U So Hot really popped off for me, both are really good sendups of the respective bygone sounds they’re tackling.

Surprisingly Surfin’ Boy fell from a 9 to a 8.25 for me. Listening to it multiple times made me realized how slight the production and chorus is. It’s just a worse version of NCT Wish’s Surf.

I assume you changed the KiiiKiii song’s rating because their fans have made you see the error of your boy-crazy ways. Or because you feared for your life

ok srsly im highly struggling with filling my yearly top 50 kpop songs list with any meaningful songs, at this point im just adding a bunch of 8.5-8 rated songs to create a somewhat justifiable list, yes this is also including going back to songs that i missed this year and relistening to them
atp i might as well either shorten it to 25 songs or combine kpop jpop and global pop into one

It’s an unusually bad year for music, isn’t it? Hopefully the last three months somehow turn it around 🤞

Probably the most obvious RISERS for me are:
AxMxP’s 10 Reasons to Date Me
YoungK’s Shut the Door
POW’s Flavor
DailyDirection’s Down With It
