JUST B: A Career In Song Ratings

There are a number of acts who have debuted in the past few decades and have dozens of song ratings on this blog. I thought it would be fun to lay these ratings out in chronological order, line-graph style, and take a macro view of their careers so far. Then, similar to my “Underrated K-pop” features, I can average their ratings into one mega-score and place them in a pantheon alongside other acts.

As always, this feature has some rules of its own. I’m including any “Song Review” ratings as part of this graph, including Japanese releases and collaborations with one other artist. I’m not including Buried Treasures or solo/sub-unit releases. For the ratings themselves, I’m using the most current number on this blog, so if a song was part of a “Risers and Fallers” or “Legendary Songs Inauguration” post, that’s the rating you’ll see displayed here. That means there will still be a few ratings here and there I find slightly inaccurate, but it’ll mostly reflect my up-to-date feelings.

Finally, these scores are completely subjective. Feel free to agree, disagree and argue (that’s part of the fun!), but know that this chart reflects the opinion of only one person (me).

  2. happy to see an upward trend for a change 😀 to be honest, this post just made me realize that out of all kpop acts, ive recently started looking forward to just b’s comebacks more than anyone else :’) if anyone at all to be honest (mostly thx to Chest and somewhat thx to their recent ep, and several of their other songs went on a playlist of some sort)

feeling a little bit sad that my overall enthusiasm level has dropped for kpop, im missing the first 2 years or so that i was a kpop fan and loved most of everything that was released (2020-2022ish). whether that was caused by actual enjoyment or bias, who knows, but it was really fun while it lasted, i wish i was like that still :/ at least i have the songs i liked from back then to come back to still

  4. Since I think they would not be revisiting that sound again, I hope we get a debut as good as Damage from another grp in the future. One of my top 4th gen debuts and I miss when kpop grps were able to make a good song with a dark concept and not equate it to just edgy noise

  5. No slump phases is spot on, and JUSTB’s catalog is rich with great b-sides as well. I’m so looking forward to the entirely DY-composed next release!
