Song Review: P1Harmony – Jump

P1Harmony - JumpI’ve got lots of love for a big, dumb EDM chorus. Bonus points if the lyrics instruct you to jump or throw your hands in the air like you just don’t care. When attached to an excellent song, these hooks can transform from cliché to transcendent. I wish P1Harmony’s Jump was such a song.

There are flashes of fun here. The chorus has a charming brevity — some “dah dahdi dah‘s” and we’re done. Its freewheeling energy feels like a party, and P1Harmony are well-suited to being the hosts. Unfortunately, Jump‘s verses sink that energy. Despite a lyric that tells us to “pump up the tempo,” most of the track feels oddly muted. Beyond a few irritating percussive samples, the beat lacks character. Every time it seems like the song will explode, it pulls back. This includes a missed-opportunity climax that opts for a simple repetition of the chorus rather than bringing new elements into the fray.

  1. I had the same feeling listening to this song, is ok but there is something missing and feels like I heard this before but better. Even if I cant pinpoint where feels familiar but lacking. Is a fun song but feels forgetable. I was hoping for more cause they are quite good.
Nothing wrong with it, aint bad just aint great either. At least is how I feel about it.

  2. So here is the thing about P1Harmony for me. I go on all mawdy about how it isn’t this that or the other thing, blah blah yadda yadda. Then the ones I do buy from them, I wind up playing a lot. Like what just happened. I mean, “Siren” is somehow in my top 50 all time plays on my itunes – ipods, what where why and how huh. The finger on the repeat button does not lie.

So I will say today, yeah, meh blah bland average so and so and so and whatev sigh shrug. I have already bought and put it on the ipods playlist. And we will see in so many months how many times I or darling daughter has played it. And then it shall be known.

  3. I think this could have used a more propulsive post chorus (or a two-part chorus). Also, I was hoping after their cover of Teen Top’s Rocking that they’d inject some 2nd gen energy into this song. I am really not sure how P1Harmony is going to break out…I feel like they are doing their own thing but they’re not moving forward melodically.

  4. I like it even if the lyrics…well…

But I have issue with songs with too much effects/filters on the voices. P1harmony have distinct voices and I like to hear them.

But the choreo is pretty good and I think it makes a better performance song than a just listenned one.

  5. I give it an 8/10 because I like how groovy it is. Also, the rap is fun as well.

On the topic of P1Harmony, best bside of the year just dropped:

  6. the song feels so contrasting, it tries to be exciting with that subdued production. the chorus is like the only staying factor for me, and it doesn’t look like a grower either. it’s still fun, despite whatever it’s trying to do.

  7. I liked it! P1Harmony is one of the noisier groups I can listen to. Their title tracks are fun and there’s always that b-side that let them show their individual talents and oftentimes is better than the TT. I love both the rap and vocal lines, and Soul🙃. They come back often, and their sound is distinctive in the sense that I can tell it’s them at first listen. I think that is very difficult to do nowadays and in my books, that counts for something. This song is an 8/10 for me✌🏻

  8. An oddly strangled one.

Clearly, the song sounds like it intends to get out of the bear trap, but instead keeps effortlessly bumping from here to there with no sense of dynamic. I don’t vibe with P1H anymore in general, their music since the moment they released “Back Down” feels backward compared to their earlier works…

    6.75 at best.

  9. I actually like this. The chorus is fun and there are no parts in the song that I don’t like.

This is one of those songs you need to listen to on a loud volume.

    8/10 for me

  10. Oh heck yeah, P1harmony serving the beats. Whatever they put out I end up playing forever. It’s just so catchy, so danceable. Boy I wish I had the vigor to sorta learn the choreo and join in. B+ for me. I still regret not going to see them when they were in town.
