INFINITE 13egin: In-Depth Album Review – I Got You

Infinite 13egin

1. Intro: 13 // 2. New Emotions // 3. Time Difference // 4. I Got You // 5. Find Me

I GOT YOU

Apart from the (very good) intro track, I Got You is the only song on 13egin produced by a longtime Infinite collaborator. BLSSD composed 2018’s Tell Me and a trio of title tracks (Destiny, Back, Bad) as part of production duo Rphabet. He knows how to produce Infinite’s vocals, and that’s apparent on I Got You.

I don’t think this is an amazing track, but it feels like the first time on the album where the group are emoting in the way I love to hear from Infinite. Sungkyu is especially effective here. In fact, I Got You could have easily been a song from his recently-released solo album.

Like all of 13egin, “restraint” is the order of the day. I Got You‘s chorus drops a satisfying beat, but the track pulls back during its verses. This results in an uneven listen, buoyed by the group’s power of expression. Wisps of strings give the instrumental a touch of drama, making me wish the arrangement embraced this theatricality further.

  1. They are definitely hedging their bets on this comeback because it’s their money on the line. I heard (was it Sung Kyu?) one of them booked a smaller stadium than the KSPO because he was afraid no one would show up. His band mates talked him into the bigger venue – which sold out immediately. Maybe this will embolden them later on.

  2. Compared to New Emotions and Time Difference, their voices are SO much clearer here! I much, much prefer this production style for Infinite.

This is a pleasant little song which could have been much stronger, but I can just enjoy their individual voices here and the ease with which they sing. It has a bit of a groove too, which I prefer to going full ballad. Love the strings.
On the whole, I’ ll take it.
