We’re now at the point where I’m writing about these V solo songs out of sheer stubbornness. It’s like Pokémon — you gotta catch them all! Never mind the fact that I have nothing new to add to my existing thoughts. For Us is the fifth (!) music video to spawn from his debut solo album, and if you’ve been following his other releases you should know what to expect.
For Us‘s distinguishing facet is a pitched-up vocal that opens the track and appears once more throughout its running time. I actually like this approach since it gives the song a bit more sonic diversity. The harmonies are also gorgeous, adding a sun-soaked haze to the track that highlights its melancholy. But like most of these singles, there’s just not enough song here for me. For Us offers a captivating vibe but ultimately fizzles to nothing. It’s like watercolors with too much water. There’s the faint outline of something interesting, but not enough color to draw it out.

Thankfully, this is the last video from Layover.

I don’t really love any of the songs of their own, but I have been playing the album as a whole a few times this week and I have been loving that? It just flows amazingly and it is almost like one long, vibing song. It just works. I have been listening to it every morning after waking up as I get ready, then I play Key’s Good and Great during lunch break to get a burst of energy midday, and it has worked nicely for me!

What the hell did I listen to
I’m sorry but this is a 6.75 for me
(Also on a completely unrelated subject, I listened to Honey G’s rap in X-Factor and it just proves my suspicion that the show is rigged)

Even the video is recycled snips from other videos, like Hybe themselves just had to make another-nother video. The gold outfit, from yet other perspectives and lighting.

If you a tiny little brain, For Us is the last track of the album and in the music video, it’s just an outro and recap of whole album process

playing each song in a sequence from the first song to the last one it makes for me i like it,in that way it seems every song is connected, songs on their own does not make sense but playing it in sequence make sense it is giving pleasent vibe though but it is not catchy at all hoping a better song with just one mv from him next time

I have the same experience, but I think it is fully intentional. He talked multiple times in the last few years about wanting to make an album that worked as a whole in which the songs were in a specific order that made it flow nice. He definitely achieved that, so I think he got what he wanted from this first work.

All of his songs are decent.
I like them well enough, but they’re not the kind that would ever make it to any playlist.

I beg to defer sir. You are very wrong here. It might not make it to your own playlist or most of you guys here but you can’t speak for others cuz lots of people, including myself will most definitely and gladly have the album on their playlist

Obviously I’m speaking for myself, you idiot.

“Layover” was never meant to be catchy pop music. It’s a collection of smooth R&B and Jazz influenced songs that convey lost love, and longing to get it back. Love his uniquely smooth and soulful vocals and accompanying music that nicely convey that. Refreshing. It’s a winner for me.

I’m a huge R&B and jazz fan. I love slower, vibier music. It still falls flat for me. It’s possible that people find V’s album underwhelming for reasons other than “it’s not catchy pop music.”

I think reviewing the songs individually and outside of the context of the album is doing a disservice to the artist’s intent. The album from top to bottom is better than individually checking out the songs, and a more fair way to assess the quality in my opinion.

Sigh. I don’t know why the older V gets, the more unappealing his voice gets.
To think I used to love Singularity and Stigma. Now, I just can’t listen to any of his songs (and yes, I won’t force myself to).
