I got nervous the moment I saw the name of Tempest’s new title track. After all, when there’s a “vroom” in K-pop, a “skrrt” can’t be far behind! And with Yuehua Entertainment’s mixed track record of choosing songs, I never feel like I can count on their artists to release good music. Tempest has flipped between the fantastic and the middling, and I’m afraid the NCT-esque Vroom Vroom sees them reaching a new low.
Sound effect hooks like “vroom vroom” are so overused in K-pop, making this track blend in with a dozen similar boy group efforts. Tempest’s performance skills are high, but they’re wasted on such a repetitive song. The “chika chika vroom vroom” chant driving Vroom Vroom wears out its welcome immediately, even as it’s replaced by an instrumental hook that sounds like a child banging on a xylophone. Nearly every moment of the song is devoted to shouting and posturing — an act that doesn’t compliment Tempest’s strengths.
A dramatic bridge showcases what Vroom Vroom might have been if given more oomph, but it’s an oasis in the middle of a desert. I was tough on 2022’s Dragon when it was released, but at least that single gave us some variety. Vroom Vroom’s idea of variety is moving between boring and obnoxious. Pick your poison, I guess.

I groaned several times watching this, it was so bad. DIVE is way better, it’s almost the male version of IVE’s I AM.

Ran to listen to Dive after reading your description 😂

Ironically, Dive is the name of IVE’s fanbase 😊

I am feeling memory challenged this morning, and also feeling like a bad person, as I do not remember much about Tempest. Have I heard this song before? We are back to boys with moto jackets singing about cars in an NCT-derivative style. That was very, what, 2020?
For what it is, is done nicely enough. If I had to score it, I would give it mid-7’s.

Prompt:
NCT 127 soundalike disturbing track, ear-scratching random instrumental, annoying vocals and samples, NCT 127 lookalike MV but cheaper, cringe poses in front of a green screen, After Effects animated flashlights, some cars here and there, awful make-up, generic choreo with lots of “my mama doesn’t know I’m doing this s**t ha ha” moves.

This dethrones Cravity’s My Turn as the worst use of “vroom” in a Kpop song. It also makes me very concerned for the Yuehuaz in ZB1 if this is what the company thinks boy group music should sound like.
However, I can say that in comparison EVNNE’s Trouble is growing on me…help.

As soon as I heard the first second I instantly knew it was gonna be terrible, but the fact that CK CK Vroom Vroom as the chorus makes this one of the worst song I have heard all year
Rating is too generous. I give this a 4.5/10.

This was difficult to get through, I wanted to close out my browser so bad. This isn’t good, I’m just disappointed because I love their main vocalist, he has a nice blend of Golden Child’s Y and ONF’s Hyojin.
It’s like Cravity and Tempest have exchanged hats. Also I absolutely loved My Turn by Cravity, I think I just have a soft spot for the X1 kids.

Um….I don’t know what to think??? I like Tempest, so I am probably being biased by saying this song didn’t bother me lol. I actually may like it better than Dragon.
However, I don’t know if we need any more “vroom vroom” type tracks from them as a title song. The NCT style to music only really works with NCT. Every other group that tries to follow their path just lacks a certain “umph” that is needed.
Also, am I the only one getting Ateez from this as well? The song isn’t as bombastic as Ateez but something about the vocal parts of Hyuk before the chorus made me think of Jongho.

Look at that, Tempest ruined my day again! I saw the teaser and still had some hope, but oh boy!
I can’t grasp how Yuehua is managing this group because it makes no sense for them to release a song like… well… this.

Is there a rule that boy groups have to do at least one racecar/motorcycle song during their career?
