Song Review: ATEEZ (Yeosang, San & Wooyoung) – IT’s You

ATEEZ (Yeosang, San & Wooyoung) - IT's YouFollowing last week’s MATZ, IT’s You is the second ATEEZ unit track from their recent album to be given a music video. In my mind, unit tracks should be used to expand a group’s sound, delivering niche genre experiments that suit whichever members are participating. That didn’t exactly happen on The World Ep.Fin: Will, and that’s the producers’ choice to make.

The grouping of Yeosang, San & Wooyoung is certainly a force to be reckoned with, and they deserve a better song than this. IT’s You has moments where it feels like it’s pulling from R&B — a somewhat new element for ATEEZ’s music. This is most apparent during its standout second verse. There are some nice instrumental flourishes here, and it’s satisfying to hear the guys stretch their vocals. However, too much of the track is still slathered in the stylistic vocal effects favored by their production team. This transforms what could have been a crisp, emotive sound into sonic sludge. It’s a missed opportunity, for sure.

  1. Pass for me. I just can’t with that initial vocal effects for the first verse. The prechorus is nice-ish, in the context of the rest. A couple of interludes. The chorus is basic kpop.

Bigger problem is that I don’t know what story this song is telling. What is it about? What is the driving artistic thought. It cruises through too many styles as tourists to be compelling and not enough to be interesting.

    • The young men of kpop love that robotic Travis Scott ad-lib lmao

I think the real story is that this is probably going to the new seductive showpiece for the tour like Cyberpunk was.

According to the translation they’re dancing for someone, likely Atiny, and they don’t want to stop.

    • it’s supposed to be the new sexy song. Honestly they could have driven that point home if san was shirtless or at in a crop top grinding in that bird cage instead of looking vaguely sad.

also please tell im not the only one who thinks this is supposed to be their answer to jungkook’s korean jt thing.

  2. This was my favorite track on the album.

Ateez has been my so close but yet so far group, they have all the elements I could want but in terms of their music it just doesn’t connect for me. So when I heard them taking a stab at R&B, my favorite genre, I was intrigued.

Is it a low stakes rehashing of mid-00s r&b? Yes. However, I appreciate the effort. 10 for me.
