Song Review: (G)-IDLE – Revenge

(G)I-DLE - RevengeI wouldn’t say that (G)-IDLE’s Super Lady has grown on me, but I appreciate its bold EDM energy and commitment to old fashioned showmanship. With that said, the group feels far more at home on grittier material that evenly spreads its time between the members’ various tones.

Revenge falls much more in line with what I’d expect from (G)I-DLE, minus the oft-irritating gimmicks of their title tracks. Its rock edge and moody vibe bring weight to their sound and the anthemic chorus offers the chance for a robust vocal turn. The song still feels more indebted to style than substance — at least where solid melodic construction is concerned. When it comes down to it, the chorus is mostly just various chants strung together. There’s far too many “la la las” for my taste. The verses also rely on atmosphere and texture, lacking memorable points that differentiate them from similar efforts. But as a whole, this is one of the stronger (G)I-DLE efforts in recent memory.

  1. I like the riff enough to replay it but I wish there was an instrumental-only version ’cause vocals get more tedious at every replay. 😔 Still better than the title track that is still the worst title track I’ve listened this year. lol

  2. It feels a lot less silly than their previous tracks, but at the same time less interesting. They fit this vibe well, but the melodies don’t do anything for me.

that music video is something else though. The first person scene in particular was shocking the first time through. I don’t care if g idle that much but they have some great music videos

  3. this is by far the best song on the album. classic g-idle doing what they’re best at. Super lady is the first g-idle title track that won’t be in my playlists its just not for me. I like when groups experiment and don’t get boxed in, but sometimes that means it just wont be for you. but this is so good.

  4. “Revenge” feels like something that’s been done before. Not a bad song though, (great instrumentals and production) I agree with your rating.

If you’re looking for a g-idle b side to review, I’d recommend “Rollie”

  5. The album is good. While I don’t think it’s amazing, it sure as hell is solid. I don’t think there are any bad songs. It is way better than Heat album. Heat let me down besides I Do and Tall Trees. I don’t know how 88 Rising thought I Want That was a bop. Anyway, Super Lady is solid, Wife is fun. The B sides are hitting too. 7 Days is a great song. If you listen more, the songs will grow on you. I think the album deserves a B score. You’re at C+ so it’s close
