It feels like tripleS have been dropping releases every other month, but this is actually their first comeback as a full group. Apart from last years’ Assemble, everything else has been performed in sub-units. Girls Never Die brings together all twenty four (!) members. With that level of participation, you might expect the track to become an unwieldy mess. Instead, it fits right within their smooth, slightly aloof wheelhouse.
This is definitely not a sound I’d expect from such an ambitious project. Girls Never Die is quite pleasant — especially during its lush, layered chorus — but I wish its strongest elements built to a more rousing whole. Much of the track is wasted by fitful instrumental breaks and moody verses that add to the atmosphere but stall momentum. As I often say with this year’s K-pop slate, the entire song needs to be faster and more dynamic.
Fortunately, Girls Never Die‘s chorus is a total winner. It’s worth slogging through the dull sing-talk verses to get to it. The melodies stretch in unexpected ways, adding mini climaxes to break apart its predictable “la la la” framework. Then entire track is drenched in reverb, adding to its dreamlike appeal. There’s vast potential to be built upon here. We just need to harness that into tighter material.

it’s like a 8.5 for me, i loved the album overall. i found that the spotify version removes the dance / instrumental breakdown around the 2 minute mark, and makes it a much more pleasant listen to me
not sure how it works but i guess there’s a performance version vs a streaming service / album version?

I wonder what song you would review for Buried Treasure and why is it Non Scale

nope, not for me… at all. I hate how the chorus just revolves around the LalaLalAllaLalala@•_•.!•<|*]!z. Come on, can we get some song where lalalala is not the main focus. I understand its their trademark but girls capitalism did it way better than this. It just drowns in the entirety of triple s’ discography.

also, the song is way too slow for me. makes it sound boring

Girls Capitalism worked because it was a post-chorus. I wish they did the same thing here.

Yeah, honestly I am trying to warm up to Triples every song they release, but I guess it’s not for me. I find it pleasant as a background. Maybe I just heard way too many la la la in kpop done better by Red Velvet, Twice etc to warm up to a band whose signature chorus goes la la la. I CAN definitely listen to it, it grooves well, it’s “pleasant” but I also definitely wouldn’t go and listen to it again. My 2 cents.

I am calling for 24, Beyond the Beyond, the pure full8loom production that is Non Scale might get buried treasure status. Ummm maybe Dimension if I squint

Even though I enjoy that part, I can’t help but feel like the chorus sounds like a post-chorus refrain. Every time we get to it, I’m like, “Are we already here?” because the rest of the verses lack the proper build-up. I’m sure it will be a grower, though.

This should be the only song on the album with all 24 members singing. The b-sides would have worked better if only a select number of members were singing.

Even though I usually don’t like sing talk, this song just checks all boxes for me. I absolutely love the groove, the lalala chorus, the dreaminess, the vocals, and adlibs. Doesn’t feel like it’s too slow either. Together with the (spectacular) MV, it’s a piece of art. I’ll easily give it a 9, maybe even more. Needless to say, bias is 10 😆
The album is really strong too!

I think the song is actually pretty good. High 7’s or flat 8 for me, perhaps.
That said, I see 24 girls and hear maybe 3 or 4. It feels like the kind of ensemble piece that AKB48-style groups would do, essentially the whole song is so smoothed over that any girl is easy to swap out for any other girl. Disposable. Its no coincidence that the line distribution is off the “live” showcase version, because who could tell from the audio. Though noting that the “live” showcase is not live, is obviously lip synced, so it seems the assigned singer is really whoever is in the center and seems to have that line.
The full effect of having all 24 on the stage too all lip syncing make it truly seem like it is a dance crew performing to someone else’s song rather than a commercial idol group. Like I am watching my niece’s dance school recital.
The showcase I am referring to is this one, though there are several other videos available of the same. No music shows up on youtube yet to compare to.

they’ll only have ot24 performances for the first week of music show promotions, after that they’ll split in 2 groups of 12.

Song is good but a bit uninspired.
Too similar to their previous releases without their hook.
This is Rising and Generation’s underachieving cousin.

I like it. It’s not as good as Rising but at least a step up from Invincible

Their worst tt to date. It has a little more going on the Invincible but neither of those tracks xompell me to return to them. Rising still remains supreme.

I dig the sound. If they sang partly in French it would be kinda like Stereolab. Remember them? Everytime I hear TripleS I think of Stereolab. Must be the lounge vibe.
