Song Review: JU-NE (iKON) – Feel Lost

JU-NE - Feel LostThe guys of iKON have slowly been establishing solo careers now that they’re free from YG Entertainment’s shackles. JU-NE has previously recorded a few OSTs, but Feel Lost (나 홀로) and accompanying mini album Bruise mark his official debut. The song sees him adopt a rock approach, melding guitar with funky rhythms.

As a guitar player himself, this genre makes use of JU-NE’s skills and interests. K-pop doesn’t have nearly enough idol guitarists, and it’s fun to see him rock out. Feel Lost‘s calling card is a high-pitched, squealing guitar riff that might have become a synth loop in a more traditional idol release. I’m not sure how pleasant this sound is as a listener, but it definitely gives the track texture.

Though Feel Lost is a good start, the song is missing something. It bops by in two and a half minutes without delivering any big punches. In this way, it feels more like a loose jam session than a taut, finely-tuned title track. But even if I’m unlikely to seek this out on its own, I can definitely hear potential for future projects.

  1. I too felt it was just missing something, like I kept waiting for it but it never came. Certainly left me “wanting more” and searching on for the other tracks. So maybe it did it’s job, hah. I’m still proud to see them all giving us their own sounds finally.

  2. The song has one hook, which is played once through, then up an octave then repeated as the chorus melody. Its missing any counter melody. Other than that, its fine.
