Global Pop Round-Up: August 2024 Edition

Global Pop Round-Up

The Bias List is a K-pop blog that also covers a fair amount of J-pop. But just like most music fans, I enjoy tracks from all around the world. So, I thought I’d start a monthly round-up of some of the non-K-pop songs that have caught my ear. No ratings — just highlights!

February 2022 // March 2022 // April 2022 // May 2022 // June 2022 // July 2022 // August 2022 // September 2022 // October 2022 // November 2022 // January 2023 // February 2023 // March 2023 // April 2023 // May 2023 // June 2023 // July 2023 // August 2023 // September 2023 // October 2023 // November 2023 // January 2024 // February 2024 // March 2024 // April 2024 // May 2024 // June 2024 // July 2024

Benjamin Ingrosso – All My Life

This guy’s gonna have one heck of an album when it finally comes out. Every song so far has been fantastic and this might just be the best yet.

Bentley Robles – Cobra

Another synth-dance slammer from Bentley.

Bess – Saanko mä luvan

She’s back with another shot of addictive electropop.

The Blessed Madonna – Edge Of Saturday Night (with Kylie Minogue)

I really like this collaboration. The song feels sprawling and multifaceted and brings Kylie even closer to the dancefloor than last year’s Tension album.

Bruno Mars & Lady Gaga – Die With A Smile

I’m featuring this simply due to the star power of these two artists. The song isn’t what I want from either of them and I find it quite dull overall. I’d rather hear both their upcoming albums, tbh.

Cheat Codes x Train – Bloom

A late summer bid for dancefloor supremacy.

Confidence Man – So What

Not as killer as I Can’t Lose You but I love the energy and I can’t wait for their new album.

Empire Of The Sun – The Feeling You Get

This is a blast from the past! The guys have still got it.

Janna – Aivan sama (ft. Erika Vikman & F)

While I anxiously wait for new material from Finland’s Erika Vikman, this effusive house track is a welcome collaboration.

Katy Perry – Lifetimes

Better than Woman’s World, but she’s running on fumes.

The Killers – Bright Lights

It’s The Killers doing The Killers. If you like them, you’ll probably like this.

LEXXE – Labyrinth

LEXXE feels like Stevie Nicks’ 80’s synth career updated for modern times. This is quite enchanting.

Madison Rose – HAUS!

Madison Rose keeps blitzing us with absolutely killer pop tracks. I love her music so much and this is another undeniable banger.

Pure Shores – Superhuman

A very enjoyable dance track.

Raaban – Iconic (ft. Julie Bergan)

High octane club music. It’s great for the workout playlist.

Rag’n’Bone Man – Rush Of Blood

Not what I expected from him at all. This is pretty euphoric.

Robin Schulz x Joel Corry x Koppy – Upside Down

Speaking of “high octane,” this banger goes off.

Rosi – Ei Kiitos!

Injecting a bit of pounding rock punch to Finland’s always enjoyable pop sound.

RÜFÜS DU SOL – Lately

This is a song in constant build, entrancing with its sense of tension.

Shania Twain & BRELAND – Boots Don’t

I’m always down for a great 90’s-era Shania Twain pastiche and this certainly fits the bill!

Theo – Vill Va Honom

He dropped the “z” from the end of his name but he’s still making bops.

  1. im just surprised by how ppl were hyped for katy’s comeback months ago and hoping she’d return to her glory days and then when she went with dr luke all the hype went out of the window

  2. ive also been digging into JoJo’s discography and she has some really powerful songs that really shows the 2000s r&b sound well

i also loved chappell roan’s trafoamp album which i listened to in its entirety this month, as well as delays’s you see colours

    • YES at JoJo’s music. She had some really nice R&B bops during her heyday. And add to that, she can SING.

Same with Hot To Go; it’s my second favorite song from Chappell Roan’s last album. I really feel bad for only listening to her music once she blew up this year. Otherwise she would’ve dominated my listening history for last year.

  3. Hi Nick! My mom is a big fan of Taiwanese boy group Ozone; we saw them in concert recently and I was very impressed by their stage production and talents. This song has a bright summer boy group sound that I think you might like:

  4. Quite surprise to see Lifetimes by Katy Perry is on the list, cause the song quite generic and dull. It does feels like some nameless DJ featuring a female vocal, posting on Spotify – “Song of the Week” and which I’ll have first listen, then forget.
