Emotional Days (from Fallin’ Light – 2019)
GFriend’s Japanese work is very hit or miss for me, which is funny because their best material strongly recalls J-pop sounds. Emotional Days’ repetitive melody has potential, but the song never builds into anything spectacular. It feels as if it’s about to explode at every turn. However, the closest we get is a powerful vocal during the chorus. The instrumental could have done with a big tempo change halfway through. The shift in percussion is too little, too late to have much effect, but at least the song is a nice vocal showcase.

Haha I coined a new term 😉
(always good to know that people are reading carefully, though. Thanks for catching this)

This is very unrelated but I always loved their outfits. Their stylists really knew what they were doing.

now that you mention that, I can’t think of anytime they looked bad

It’s not spectacular, but I do like the vocals and how the song doesn’t force itself to be longer than it needs to be. It’s a well structured packaged

The verses are soooooo boring but the chorus (and climax!) are soooooo good.
You really have to trudge through the verses to get to the good parts.
