Mermaid (from LOL – 2016)

There aren’t really many skips on the LOL album, but this is one of the tracks that doesn’t stand out as much for me. It’s got touches of their signature 2016 sound, tied to a much more subdued mid-tempo energy. The melodies are similar to many of their early songs — just not as memorable. However, it makes a nice breather between more high-octane moments. I simply wish the track grew toward more effective peaks. It remains pleasant all the way through and that’s a recipe for musical apathy.

  1. What? It’s definitely a standout on their discography, it was one of the first chances we had to hear gfriend being dramatic af and not only singin cute and bubbly stuff. I’m a firmed believer that without this song we won’t have their “passionate melancholy” sound
