BOYS II PLANET: Episode Seven Recap

PREVIOUS RECAPS: Episode One // Episode Two // Episode Three // Episode Four // Episode Five // Episode Six

Guys… this new episode is almost three hours long and all they’re doing is announcing rankings. I’m not watching all that. Sorry, even I have my limits.

However, I figure there are readers who would still appreciate a space to discuss this episode and particularly the trainees who were saved or eliminated. So, here are some important stats to keep us all going until next week’s episode.

Top Eight Ranks

If the group were announced today, here are the members:
1. Lee Sang-won
2. Zhou Anxin
3. Chung Sang-hyeon
4. Kim Jun-seo
5. Lee Leo
6. Chuei Li-yu
7. Yoo Kang-min
8. Masato
Not much change from the last voting results, honestly. Notably, we’ve got VERIVERY’s Kangmin in there, along with 1THE9’s Junseo and those two popular “Trainee A” guys (Sangwon and Lee Leo).

Eliminations

Notable eliminations this round were VERIVERY’s Dongheon (a little shocked about this), MCND’s Bang Junhyuk, Song Minjae & Noh Huijun, DKB’s Yang Heechan, WHIB’s Moon Wonjun, and Yusen (that guy with the regretful Rising Sun vocal)

Other Notes

In between eliminations, the guys also had a dance battle hosted by ZEROBASEONE’s Gunwook (apparently! I’ll never see it…)

They also teased the original songs for next week. These have grown duller each year and this new crop sounds quite bad. None of the tracks stand out to me based on these previews. Remember the days of Never? That was a banger! (embedded below for nostalgia)

  1. Thanks for the quick post, Nick! Anyways, here is my opinion on this show. Personally, I feel like the contestants need to be more ambitious and flip expectations. If they can somewhat make this show funnier, introduce more hooks, include more unexpected twists and actually have overwhelmingly talented members, Boys II Planet would’ve been way more famous and memorable.

Seriously, this survival show is way too cookie cutter and I feel that it needs to go in depth because this show is exactly the same as Boys Planet but slightly worse and just not intriguing enough to warrant a 3-hour watch. Please, just add more colour/saturation and make it more magical and nostalgic.

Right now, I feel like the show is too fixated on rankings/hierarchy instead of easing into its storytelling and hooks. Boys II Planet is also way too long for each episode and though it was able to clearly convey the emotional highs and lows of the contestants, it feels so dull and uninteresting. I don’t know, maybe it was because I grew up around Disney but this show could’ve gone bigger and bolder.

It’s my opinion and I just feel that this show lacks interesting elements, tension, and substance compared to their counterparts (Girls Planet 999, I-Land 1 and 2 and Universe League/Ticket).

At this point, there are just way too much people and I don’t even know who is my personal favourite. If we’re talking about all-rounder potential, I’d say Leo, Anxin, Woojin (only because he performed Atlantis Princess) and possibly Kim Jun Seo. Ye Chan and Dong Gyu caught my attention initially but they lack staying power. Overall, it might be the worst survival show I’ve ever watched and the contestants are slightly uninteresting and forgettable, albeit having exceptional dance skills.

    Goodbye!

  2. It was so predictable but I’m glad that all of my picks made it. And so many other talented and well visual trainees were ranked so low like Park Dong-gyu, Kim Jun-min, Chen Bowen, Hsu Ching-yu, and even Kang Woo-jin. The fans want talent and visual, isn’t that right? What’s happening? I still don’t understand how some of the top 8 trainees made it there.

  3. I don’t know, I think Sugar High sounds quite promising. I hope Anxin does this one so he can look happy in a performance for once.

I was also really looking forward to seeing Yumeki’s and Harry June’s dance battles but I guess they are lost in the void with Haruto and Hanbin’s.

  4. I figured that despite his good performance, minjae’s leadership would paint him in a negative light. What gets me is that the “main vocal” from his group, Hu Hanwen, survived. Maybe people put the blame on minjae instead of him? I thought the mcnd boys had decent visibility good performances. I thought we might lose one of them, but not all three. There are some people with minimal edits who still made it through I don’t get how that happens. I’m not enraged though cause the people I want to make it almost never do

  5. DKB’s Heechan getting eliminated, I thought he got a great leader edit and he’s also very sexy to me, but it’s not like I bothered to vote, so….
