Song Review: Miyeon (i-dle) – Sky Walking

It’s been a very slow week in K-pop, which means I’m turning my eye to “special videos” in the absence of proper comebacks. Miyeon’s Sky Walking was first released all the way back in December 2024, but has now been repurposed as a tourism campaign for Macau. So while I missed the track last year, this promotion (and digital release) has me diving in for the first time.

While I don’t find Sky Walking to be a career standout, its uplifting pop/rock sound is quite fun and refreshingly uncomplicated. The song is not gimmicky enough to be an i-dle title track, but that allows Miyeon to simply relax into the track and deliver a warm, engaging performance. Her vocal flits between powerful and light, hitting a few nice peaks as high notes pepper the melody.

Speaking of melodies, Sky Walking isn’t very memorable in this regard. Its chorus unfurls with a sense of granduer that fits the anthemic chug of the instrumental and an enjoyable post-chorus adds a bit of oomph, but mostly the song colors within expected lines. It’s designed as a pleasant balm and works well in that regard. Don’t expect more than a breezy commercial film and you’ll likely be charmed.

  1. That’s a really pleasing vocal. Light and sweet. Uncomplicated and earnest. Just enough touches on the production too.

I don’t I love love the song, but I think it is a very nice song. Let’s give it a strong Like with a capital L. Flat 8.

    • Also released this week, there are these

ARISE x i-dle called “Arise” (game cv?), meets expectations

Min Jiwoon “byebye” mid tempo solo, meets expectations

Juniel “혜성” up-tempo sounds like a OST crossed with the Youngha solo sound. Meet expectations.

Fifty-fifty “Take My Hand” bright, poppy, meets expectations

KiiiKiii “Strawberry Cheesegame” is the english name. Heavy on the rap triplets, so an instant demerit for that. Otherwise a little off-kiiilter in that Kiikii way. Meets expectations.

DICE (D1ce?) “Billionaire” – bright theme boy band up tempo. Meets expectations.

And then the gods of youtube feed suggested an old SNL skit “Prince Auditions” which is a useful distraction. Rami Malek and Kenan, both who can play anything. Exceeds expectations.

    • Also, for the K-ballad lovers like myself, there is a mighty fine mid-tempo Lim Young Woong “Eternal Moment” out today. Meets expectations (which for me for him is a high bar) and gets an extra point for being in 6/8 time. His vocal shifts octaves so easily, so seamlessly. High 8’s for me.

  2. It’s ok I guess….but it does nothing for me. And this describes most of this month’s releases with a few exceptions (Stupid, Electric Heart, Glam, and Grateful to Tears).

There are two song that caught my attention but were not reviewed…JustB’s Too Late and JunHee’s Supernova (I think this one has a video and all). I like both better that whatever this song gave me🤷🏻‍♀️
