Song Review: YeoJin (Loossemble) – Sugar Talk

LOONA spin-off Loossemble are currently without an agency, unable to release new music since 2024. As a salve for anxious fans, their youngest member YeoJin has returned today with a solo track. Sugar Talk will likely please those in the mood for a vibey LOONAVERSE track, even if it sounds like “easy listening” to me.

A song like Sugar Talk might be effective as an antidote to bigger, bolder sounds, but in an industry where subdued vibes have become the norm rather than the exception, there’s little to help the song stand out. It’s a boppy mid-tempo with a repetitive chorus and a barely-over-two-minutes runtime. It feels more like a sigh than an exclamation, led by a sweet but unsubstantial vocal and production that barely exerts itself. If anything, Sugar Talk is an exercise in fan service — a chance to get product onto the market rather than make any sort of musical statement. Hopefully this pleasant stopgap will urge some agency to snatch up the full group and give them a chance for a (third) resurgence.

  1. Speaking generally, I don’t know what some idols in kpop come back after a long while away and decide a song like THIS is the one they will make their mark with. This simple plunky plunky midtempo soft vibey thing is the one. This seems to happen weekly or more, and I just don’t know why.
