There are a number of acts who have debuted in the past few decades and have dozens of song ratings on this blog. I thought it would be fun to lay these ratings out in chronological order, line-graph style, and take a macro view of their careers so far. Then, similar to my “Underrated K-pop” features, I can average their ratings into one mega-score and place them in a pantheon alongside other acts.
As always, this feature has some rules of its own. I’m including any “Song Review” ratings as part of this graph, including Japanese releases and collaborations with one other artist. I’m not including Buried Treasures or solo/sub-unit releases. For the ratings themselves, I’m using the most current number on this blog, so if a song was part of a “Risers and Fallers” or “Legendary Songs Inauguration” post, that’s the rating you’ll see displayed here. That means there will still be a few ratings here and there I find slightly inaccurate, but it’ll mostly reflect my up-to-date feelings.
Finally, these scores are completely subjective. Feel free to agree, disagree and argue (that’s part of the fun!), but know that this chart reflects the opinion of only one person (me).

Overall Trendline:

By far, my favorite girl group to ever exist. I personally would give several other songs a 10 as well such as: Glass Bead, Love Whisper, Time for the Moon Night, and Mago. They have the best girl group discography in kpop in my opinion.
Thanks for your hard work on this!

nick I just wanna say thank you so much for doing this. I love this new feature, but what I love even more is the fact that you’re doing this often! it’s great to see how groups have performed.

Undoubtedly the most consistent GG in the history of K-pop along with SNSD.
Day 3 of asking Nick to do one for ONF/Golden Child

OOO yeah onf would be great! speaking of WM, i also vote for b1a4, especially with their comeback coming up on monday. literally all of their ot5 titles are 10s for me except maybe Baby I’m Sorry which i always forget abt lol

B1A4 are one of the few groups who, when I get to them, will likely be split into two separate acts (O5 and O3). To me , they’re just functionally different in ways that other acts who have lost members aren’t.

oh interesting! yeah the difference between jinyoung and cnu’s production does make it feel like two different groups musicwise

one of my ults!! while their 2019-2020 stuff wasn’t my favorite i can still appreciate that alot of it was objectively good. they have one of the best discographies out there and i am forever grateful they came back for their tenth anniversary

I think this feature really visually highlights that consistency and clear concepts are really rewarded, because even if some of the highs aren’t as high as the highest high, they’re still within that wheelhouse enough to be fun. Obviously the imperial phase here is that 2015-18 run, but looking at the graph overall I’d say that it really shows that their tried-and-tested formula always worked.
I really miss the Gfriend sound in kpop! Season of Memories was an unexpected delight, although of course not as good as the originals, but I’m still glad we got that at least.
