There are a number of acts who have debuted in the past few decades and have dozens of song ratings on this blog. I thought it would be fun to lay these ratings out in chronological order, line-graph style, and take a macro view of their careers so far. Then, similar to my “Underrated K-pop” features, I can average their ratings into one mega-score and place them in a pantheon alongside other acts.
As always, this feature has some rules of its own. I’m including any “Song Review” ratings as part of this graph, including Japanese releases and collaborations with one other artist. I’m not including Buried Treasures or solo/sub-unit releases. For the ratings themselves, I’m using the most current number on this blog, so if a song was part of a “Risers and Fallers” or “Legendary Songs Inauguration” post, that’s the rating you’ll see displayed here. That means there will still be a few ratings here and there I find slightly inaccurate, but it’ll mostly reflect my up-to-date feelings.
Finally, these scores are completely subjective. Feel free to agree, disagree and argue (that’s part of the fun!), but know that this chart reflects the opinion of only one person (me).

Overall Trendline:

What a great career!! However, even though I love them to bits and pieces, I feel like they’re getting more and more out of touch with what makes them so special. They have the brain and creativity to make something great instead of chasing trends. Or probably because they just run out of ideas at this point. I still love them no matter what and I will always continue to support them.

you are nicer than me I would’ve included 2022-2025 as their slump phases. nearly every song they’ve released in those years are chops, most especially Super and God of Music.

Is this the most dramatic decline so far, yet the rating average is still above an 8? Those early songs are really hard carrying the rest. The Imperial Phase for me are the b-sides from 2019-2022 (To You, Kidult, All My Love, etc.).

Some of their early tracks have been on my playlists since ever and i enjoy them every single time. Their music has definitely declined since the past few years and sadly, I don’t see them recovering any time soon, particularly with the military enlistments and all.

You’ve included “Healing” as a single? If memory serves me correct, you posted it under the category of buried treasure and I remember you mentioning you don’t categorize songs whose mvs just include the members vlogging as a single.

Hard agree on the overall trend showing on your graph, but they’re still probably my overall favourite boy group for those golden first few years. A lot of what I look for in K-pop has been shaped by their early output.
