There are a number of acts who have debuted in the past few decades and have dozens of song ratings on this blog. I thought it would be fun to lay these ratings out in chronological order, line-graph style, and take a macro view of their careers so far. Then, similar to my “Underrated K-pop” features, I can average their ratings into one mega-score and place them in a pantheon alongside other acts.
As always, this feature has some rules of its own. I’m including any “Song Review” ratings as part of this graph, including Japanese releases and collaborations with one other artist. I’m not including Buried Treasures or solo/sub-unit releases. For the ratings themselves, I’m using the most current number on this blog, so if a song was part of a “Risers and Fallers” or “Legendary Songs Inauguration” post, that’s the rating you’ll see displayed here. That means there will still be a few ratings here and there I find slightly inaccurate, but it’ll mostly reflect my up-to-date feelings.
Finally, these scores are completely subjective. Feel free to agree, disagree and argue (that’s part of the fun!), but know that this chart reflects the opinion of only one person (me).
Check out TVXQ’s placement on the ULTIMATE ARTIST RANKING page!
*TVXQ are one of a very few acts whose career I am splitting into two different entities. Despite sharing the same name, their work as a five-piece and two-piece feels distinct.

I think the last two tracks on the album are the best ones but overall it’s not doing enough for me to warrant a buried treasure, unfortunately.

oh so you thought the snippets sounded better than the actual songs?

Have you listened to Down much since it came out? I’m honestly surprised you still have it as a 7.75

Just relistened to Keep Your Head Down and man, Changmin’s high notes are something that has me pounding the floor, going feral. God I wish there was someone the torch could truly be passed down to in the current generations.

I bet Sohee could do it if they let him

I really wish Yoo Youngjin got to work with Sohee

I’m betting (a YYJ-trained) Jaehee can do it too, but maybe he & Jang Jinyoung can achieve something similar tol

Them having the exact same amount of songs as OT5 is crazy, even more that they have almost the same average, a perfectly even split discography you could say! Combined they have 88 songs, by far the most of any group yet, a bonus graph of all their songs together would be cool to see ;). Now I gotta listen to their whole discography some time!
(+ u-know and max are still fiiiiiiine to this day 😜)

Android is absolutely a 10 for me – with that massive chorus (their best one imo) and that epic dubstep breakdown, how could it not be?? Catch Me is my favorite TVXQ song (and a top 2 K-pop song of all time imo), but Rising Sun (O5), Android, and the b-side I Think U Know are all very high 10’s for me. No second gen group comes close to TVXQ imo.

Nice! My top 3 O2 b-sides have to be I Think U Know, TRHM, and Our Game (honorable mentions go to Hide and Seek, Viva, Fated, Y3K, and Off-Road).

How can ‘I Don’t Know’ only be an 8.75? I feel like it’s within the same ballpark as I Think U Know. It’s a 9.25 for me.
