Song Review: WOOAH – Voodoo Doll

WOOAH have spent their year blitzing the market with digital singles, hoping something will stick. Thus far, we’ve gotten spring and summer tracks and judging by its title you might assume Voodoo Doll is targeted to the Halloween season. Instead, the girls have delivered a bright house track promoted with a seemingly random AI music video.

I don’t spend much time writing about music videos, but this is a weird one. It devolves into what looks like a screen saver about halfway through and the girls are nowhere to be found in their own video. The song is similarly generic, offering an upbeat drive that beckons to the dancefloor but doesn’t know what to do once it gets there. To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if parts of this production were made with AI as well. It’s a pleasant, upbeat sound but lacks any sense of self. This could be literally anyone, and that weirdly anonymous feeling extends to the song’s melodies. The chanted chorus is fun but forgettable, while a brief distorted vocal during the post-chorus offers the only glimpse of experimentation.

  1. some people in the comments of the video do seem to think the song used AI too, apparently the intro gives it away. i know someone in the comments under your “can’t go back” review also suspected AI was used in that song, again because of the intro, which does have similarities to this one here. the idea of AI on a sweetune track is quite sickening though and would truly signify that we are in the end times lol
