Young Posse have had a very mixed track record on this blog, and lately it’s trending for the worse. I enjoy what they do in theory — especially when they focus on the classic touchstones of the genres they reference. Too often, their music gets caught up in gimmicky catchphrases and “experimental” production that tends to be more grating than thrilling.
With new single Go Ahead (GO해), the group has moved back to basics. We’re firmly within early-90s hip-hop — an evergreen inspiration for K-pop acts. The girls vamp over a House Of Pain style beat, interpolating Queen (?) and overdoing it a bit with the swaggy affectations. This is a recipe that could be successful if the song itself was stronger. Its beat switch-ups are fun and build upon each other rather than upend momentum, but Go Ahead struggles to find a hook worth coming back to. It often feels like some friends (a posse, if you will) playing around on a beat without any intention to make a memorable single. Hip-hop is littered with such tracks, but these aren’t usually promoted with music videos.

Better than Visa and that godawful Mr. remake, not as good as We Don’t Go To Bed Tonight.
Rating’s the same

literally what did Kara do to get remakes that served absolutely nothing

I mean, well, its not horrible, but why? Why imitate so closely a sound from half a world away from last century? What’s next – grunge band sound?

A bit more palatable than their last releases, but the song did not manage to put out any lasting impressions in any of my brain cells unfortunately.

It’s OK, I like it a bit better than you but agree it’s questionable being a single. 7.5
My favorite female hip-hop tracks this year (Young Posse was up there last year), all songs that really leave a mark:
3. Keyveatz – OXY
2. Kep1er – I am Kep1
1. HEART OF WOMAN – SHOW H.O.W

It’s a bit like Ate That but not as good. I’m just glad to see that they aren’t out of money. Their last year of releases looked so low budget I was afraid the well had run dry.

I like the synth underlying during the chorus, but Ate That is just too strong in their entire discography overall. Not sure what genre Ate That is, but I truly wish Young Posse could laying toward that side of music.
