Freed from the clutches of YG Entertainment, iKON and its members have a newfound freedom of expression that’s resulting in a wide variety of music. Bobby’s solo work has run the gamut, at times melodic but often combative.
f is driven by rock energy, and the punchy guitar makes for an ideal setting for Bobby to deliver a cathartic — almost stream of consciousness — flow. The constant profanity may put off some listeners, but as a performance piece this is pretty effective. It’s not a song you can just put on in the background and vibe with, and depending on your mood that will either be a strength or a setback. At the very least, it’s nice to hear an artist unfiltered and raw.

Oh Good god.
Sonny boy at camp this summer says that whatever counselor was in charge of the music in the showers played loud trap and rap uncensored. Fast forward a few months to last weekend at the high school football game, the preshow hype DJ playing urban contemporary music. Some rap song comes around and he says “interesting, the DJ is doing a good job at bleeping the swear words, there was one supposed to be one there aaaaand there aaaaaaand there , and yep good job DJ”.
Thanks, sonny boy. (He’s 12.)
This song without the swear words would not have a vocal track at all.
Easy pass for me. (Or is it a hard pass? Sonny boy, what is the parlance?)

I know music is subjective but just wondering how did you give this song a 7.75 while Jennie’s song got 7.5? 🤔

I’m unlikely to add either to my personal playlist, but I like this one better because it seems to be expressing something. Jennie’s track feels too generic/cobbled together to me.

The reason why the MV seems like a highlight medley is…it is! It’s a mashup of “f” (the first track on the album) and “hercules” (the second track).
I’m surprised you gave this 7.75 when you HATED “u mad?”, the title track from his last album. I think “u mad?” works better as a substantive full meal in its own right than either “u” or “hercules”, which I enjoyed but which are both bite-size snacks of pure adrenaline. (Of course, you’re under no obligation to be consistent – it’s your blog!)

Oh how embarrassing! Haha I watched the mv first and then listened to the audio and I thought they sounded different. I may have to edit that line out. It was early in the morning…

It’s not your fault at all – the MV doesn’t make what it is clear at all! I only noticed because someone on Reddit pointed it out. At last, social media helping to clarify things instead of making them blurrier!

Well Bobby, U mad?😬
I’ll say one thing…when he does this type of song, even though it is not my cup of tea, It feels sincere, authentic, and I appreciate that. As an artist, I think he is interesting, talented and charismatic.
About a month ago I decided to risk my life😂 and hike it to Brooklyn on a Tuesday evening to see IKON in concert. In the middle of it I could not help but think “this is Bobby’s show (ft IKON)”. I like all the guys and I missed Jay immensely, but Bobby was off the charts hyped, energized and engaged throughout the whole thing. All that without any explicit crassness, cursing or posturing.
He was simply amazing!!!

I was at that show as well. He dominated, at times looking like he was the only one happy to be there. Love these guys, but he did own that show. This song concerns me a bit. I hope some of his anger subsides.
