Song Review: ATEEZ (Jongho) – Everything

Jongho - EverythingWe’ve reached the end of ATEEZ’s sub-unit/solo music video releases with Jongho’s Everything. Out of all the members, I’m most curious to hear what Jongho can do on his own. As the group’s main vocal, he’s in charge of the stirring power notes that help make their music so dramatic. In a perfect world, Everything would give him his own little rock opera. Instead, it’s a stark piano ballad.

This is not unexpected. Giving your main vocal a power ballad is a well-established trope, and Everything is no better or worse than most of these throughout K-pop history. It’s nice to hear Jongho deliver more nuance and emotion than ATEEZ’s group material often allows, but the song itself is fairly forgettable. A bigger rock edge might have taken this out of OST territory, but as it stands the best moment occurs during the climax when Jongho’s wrenching vocal collides with a brief flurry of electric guitar.

  1. This song gets at least a 9/10 from me. I tend to be a fairly emotional person, and I’m known to cry when I hear emotional vocals. This one gets me every time. I also just love Jongho’s vocal tone. He’s gorgeous.

  2. This is a tear jerker. He makes you feel his loss, and he sells it with everything he has , I am glad to see that he is using facial expressions to give the public a glimmer into his feelings. It’s a 10.

  3. Hey Nick.

Very unrelated, but I just recently became a very big fan of Prince, and I was wondering, in case you also liked his music, if you had any song recommendations, considering I tend to like the songs you suggest

    • Yes, I’m a big fan of Prince! Oh wow… you’ve got a *lot* of music in front of you. The size and breadth of his discography is very intimidating!

As for albums, Purple Rain and 1999 are huge classics and great entry points. Sign O’ The Times is also considered one of his best but I find it harder to get into as a whole. I personally love his early-90’s albums Love Symbol and Diamonds And Pearls, so that’s a good starting point if you want a more hip-hop leaning sound.

As for songs, here are some of the top rated ones in my library (mostly singles):

      Gett Off
      When Doves Cry
      I Would Die 4 U
      Kiss
      U Got The Look
      7
      Cream
      Purple Rain
3 Chains O’ Gold (a rock opera, basically!)
      When You Were Mine
      Gold
      If I Was Your Girlfriend
      I Feel For You
Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad
      Let’s Go Crazy
      Alphabet Street
      Little Red Corvette
      Thieves In The Temple
      Raspberry Beret
      The Morning Papers
      Anotherloverholeinyourhead
I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man
      Shockadelica
      Sign O’ The Times
      Live 4 Love

      • Oh, I love some of those! I agree that the size of his discography might be scary at first, but it also made me very interested at the amount of new music I could discover

When Doves Cry, Gold and Kiss are personal favorites of mine. I’ll make sure to check out the ones I don’t know.
I listened to his albums in order, right now I’m checking out Around The World In A Day (Love me some Paisley Park and Raspberry Beret)

        Thanks for the recommendations!

    • Honestly I agree. Gravity is such an amazing fuckin song. Every time it comes up on my playlist, I have to listen to it at least a minimum of ten/twenty times before I’m satisfied enough to move to the next song.
