K-Pop Risers & Fallers: December 2024

Risers & FallersRather than contain my “Risers and Fallers” feature to a single post in June, I’m going to share a bite-sized version at the end of each month. This will let me account for more songs and make a nice lead-in to the monthly round-up post.

I anticipate most of these ratings adjustments will be negligible: a 0.5 shift here, a 0.25 shift there. But, it’s a fun way to keep track of how my feelings on songs have changed over time – as well as which tracks currently have momentum on my playlist.

And remember, just because a song is marked as a “faller” doesn’t mean I hate it! Falling from a “9” to an “8.75” is no shame. 9+ rated songs occupy a totally different playlist in my music library, so I’m pretty particular about what qualifies. It’s a high bar.

This month’s feature covers the period from November 19th to December 16th.

  1. Yippee- Strategy rose for you! Though, I was lowkey hoping for a bigger jump (but did expect it to rise!), I swear it gets more addictive with each listen!

    Anyways, my risers are:

    Home Sweet Home (G-Dragon ft. Taeyang & Daeseung) – 8.25 (8, 8, 9, 8) to 8.75 (8, 9, 9, 9)

    Last Festival (TWS)- 8.5 (9, 8, 9, 8) to 9 (straight)

    And only faller:

    Official (ICHILLIN’)- 8.75 (8, 9, 9, 9) to 8.5 (8, 9, 8, 9)

Didn’t expect Walkin’ on Water to fall for you, yet didn’t expect it to rise at the same time. And logging out, hoping I didn’t forget any songs, but doubt I did given December is almost always sparse

  2. My biggest riser is from20/Hello Gloom’s Blue. That song really grew on me, and so far is easily my favorite song of the month.

  3. Thanks, Nick. I was waiting for this post to update certain things

    Risers

Jay Chang – What You Need (ft. Tag Of One Pact)

    Rating: 8.25 → 8.5

    Miyeon – Sky Walking

    Rating: 7.5 → 7.75

    Younite – Taste *Biggest Riser*

    Rating: 7.75 → 8.75

Yes… The production of this won me over.

    Fallers

    Cravity – Now Or Never

    Rating: 8.75 → 8.5

It’s still good but it distanced me.

Just to contextualize some points, Now Or Never was on my countdown this year, but it fell to me I took it off the list. Not just him but Twist Ya. As I said before, my list is different from Nick’s and I can change it by December. I discovered an interesting song this month, the name is ‘Now Or Never’ (coincidence?) by soloist EJel, released at the end of October. The production reminds me a bit of synthwave, an interesting song. Although it is outside the K-Pop repertoire, it made it onto my list

  4. This blog has been singlehandedly responsible for shoving tws to no. 1 on my spotify wrapped this year in the span of just over two months, and frankly, their singles just keep getting more delightful ever time I play them. We don’t even celebrate Christmas where I’m from, but catch me playing Last Festival on loop the entirety of this week, tbh.

  5. I had a few questionable risers:

    Nowadays – Lets Get It

    ACE – Piñata

    TheBoyz – Trigger

Ateez – Ice on my Teeth

Not sure what’s wrong with me🙃
