Song Review: Epic Travels (EPTS) – Tab Tab

I love being able to spotlight a severely under-the-radar act on this blog. Epic Travels quietly debuted last year but have since added member Sangil (formerly of Snuper!). If you need a catch-up on Snuper’s extraordinary singles run, this blog will be a great resource. Epic Travels’ new video for Tab Tab currently has just over two hundred views on YouTube, but to my ears the song is one of the stronger pieces of music released this week.

Tab Tab doesn’t reinvent the wheel and its production gets a bit messy here and there, but it’s a bounding pop track driven by solid vocals, gated percussion and a satisfying synth rhythm. It finds a nice, rarely-targeted middle ground between charismatic and bright, climaxing in a strutting chorus that recalls earlier K-pop generations. The song loses steam during its pre-chorus when the arrangement fumbles around a bit, but builds toward an effective finale that melds power vocals with the full brunt of the instrumental. I wish this group well, because I hear a ton of potential in Tab Tab.

  1. Ooh, I love the swinging rhythm of the production, marked by a strong beat and some good bass. The hooks also have that sweet, melodic quality to it, I honestly hear EXO in the hooks (mostly cause it sounded Growl-esque tbh). But I like this one, this might see some repeated plays from me.

    8.25 (8, 8, 9, 8) for me.

  2. You can hear and see the oodles of experience these guys have. The confidence, the swagger. I have loved a song or three from every group these guys hail from, so that makes it one yes for me. Another yes because the song is plain old good fun. Not inventing the wheel, but solid.
