Rather than contain my “Risers and Fallers” feature to a single post in June, I’m going to share a bite-sized version at the end of each month. This will let me account for more songs and make a nice lead-in to the monthly round-up post.
I anticipate most of these ratings adjustments will be negligible: a 0.5 shift here, a 0.25 shift there. But, it’s a fun way to keep track of how my feelings on songs have changed over time – as well as which tracks currently have momentum on my playlist.
And remember, just because a song is marked as a “faller” doesn’t mean I hate it! Falling from a “9” to an “8.75” is no shame. 9+ rated songs occupy a totally different playlist in my music library, so I’m pretty particular about what qualifies. It’s a high bar.
This month’s feature covers the period from July 22nd to August 18th.
RISERS
ASC2NT – Don’t Move
Rating: 8.25 → 8.5
Dragon Pony – Radio Silence
Rating: 8 → 8.25
IDID – Step It Up
Rating: 7.5 → 8.5 *Biggest Riser*
NCT Wish – Surf
Rating: 8.5 → 8.75
ZEROBASEONE – Slam Dunk
Rating: 7.5 → 8
BONUS: Two slightly older songs that have hit the 9’s.
CRAVITY – SET NET G0?!
Rating: 8.75 → 9
NOWZ – Everglow
Rating: 8.5 → 9
FALLERS
BoA – Crazier
Rating: 8.25 → 8
Key – Hunter
Rating: 9 → 8.75
WOODZ – Smashing Concrete
Rating: 7.75 → 7.5
Yippee, Everglow got that deserved 9! I also considered putting it in the 9s after it rose from an 8.5 to 8.75 last month, cause that song has some insane longevity (it’s that damn cathartic two-part chorus), but it really is a banger.
Didn’t expect Set Net G0?! to rise to 9 as well, as much as that song too grew on me, I still don’t see it as 9-worthy. Maybe it’ll change a few months down the line, but hey, it’s still one of my fave songs of this summer! Also expected Hunter to fall, but sigh, this damn month is so… weak, Hunter, Surf and Electric Heart is this month’s only graces… :’)
Anyways, can’t point to a riser/faller, cause again, the month’s extremely dry (and ironically, it’s when it rains probably the most where I live)

This month has been DIRE. There may have been a couple songs I’ve enjoyed but not even *one* album that I’ve liked.

so salty that I Want It by STAYC fell on July 21 so it’s impossible for you to show that it rose…

It didn’t rise for me, though. It’s still an 8.5.

I’ve finally gotten into their variety the past couple months but haven’t watched CRAVITY Park yet. Should I start with season 5 or are there references that would be more enjoyable if I started at the beginning?

I think season 3 is a good place to start. Season 1 isn’t that good of an introduction since a. It’s way less variety-flavoured than you may think and b. since they were rookies there’s just this polish about it I don’t like. Season 2 is more episodical but season 3 (especially the first two episodes) is where shit finally hits the fan.
Season 3, 5 and 6 are all great. Season 8 isn’t great since those episodes are focused on ‘punishments’ and a lot of them (except the teletubbies one) are just cringe in my eyes, watch those after a while.
I need to watch the newer episodes and catch up lmao the themes look alright.

Set Net Go rose to 9
It rose so much for me as well from like an 8-ish to a 9-ish.
Other risers for me have been dancing alone and waste no time.

I think I’d call it my favorite CRAVITY song, now.
