Song Review: Soojin – Baditude

Former (G)I-DLE/i-dle member Soojin made her solo debut back in 2023 and has released a comeback each year since then. Her music so far hasn’t been for me, as the songs felt underdeveloped and over-reliant on stylish sounds rather than strong melodies. New single Baditude brings a heightened sense of energy but continues her run of underwhelming work.

I think the K-pop industry needs to put a hold on the words “Baddie” and “Baditude.” They’re just… dumb. Does anyone really call themselves a “baddie” and expect to be taken seriously? It feels like a word you’d see on the butt of some sparkly sweatpants at the mall. The fact that Baditude is completely reliant on this silly branding makes it hard to appreciate. This is too bad, because the song’s production has nice bounce and the chanted chorus is less irritating than these kind of hooks often are. With a completely different conceit, Baditude might have worked.

As it stands, the song sounds like a set piece from a Disney Channel movie musical — but not one of the A-tier ones. You can easily imagine the movie’s villain having a silly dance showcase while proclaiming things like “‘I take it straight to the max’ kinda attitude!” For this to work, the music needs to revel in its own sense of camp. Unfortunately, Baditude plays things completely straight and ultimately fizzles.

  2. Dont know who is directing/mixing/processing her vocals but they should get fired. This technique doesnt fit her.

She has sounded screechy for the past 2 songs and I know for a fact thats not how she sounded in Idle. That pre-chorus sounds awful and flat.

  3. omg, Nick, you’re such a baddie for this takeeeeee!!!!But being fr tho, it does feel very descendants adjacent, unfortunately we have seen a lot of similar takes in kpop recently, and this doesn’t stand out for me as much :c

It’s not bad, but it’s about a 7 for me too.

  4. Any thoughts on aespa’s newest highlight medley? I think the tracks this time sound more promising than their last album’s.

  5. This was bad, if it was more tongue in cheek and played up to the silliness it would have been better. Soojin is a good artist with poor music choices in my eye’s.
