Song Review: YUHZ – Rush Rush

Debuting boy group YUHZ come to us from survival series B:MY BOYZ. Like many new series-spawned groups, their contract is slightly longer (five years), which hopefully gives their agency motivation to promote them with longevity in mind.

A song like Rush Rush could be considered low-hanging fruit for me. Even at its worst, a bright, anthemic pop track like this will always be appealing. And thankfully, Rush Rush arrives with some pedigree behind it, composed by the D_answer team who have written some great hits within this genre over the past few years. And though this hit does nothing new, it’s a buoyant burst of optimistic sounds that effectively targets listeners’ pleasure centers. Rock guitar and synth strings compete throughout Rush Rush‘s upbeat instrumental, with the former claiming victory as we reach the exciting conclusion.

Like the genre tropes it adheres to, Rush Rush‘s melodies aren’t particular interesting or dynamic, but they get the job done. This is the kind of song you won’t be surprised to hear rattling around in your head. Its chorus is hummable without needing to resort to the catchphrasey hooks most producers employ to worm their way into your memory. YUHZ themselves seem very young and excitable, making them perfect conduits for this sound.

  1. I am going to pronounce it “Yooz”, as I see the yoo character, and I am feeling Brooklyn right now. Yoo-uh-gee is also fine.

Song is also fine. Solid pop song, does nothing spectacular but does what it does well enough. Run time is what, 2:30? But they put in a proper outro which fools us all, instead of just endin
