Song Review: Limelight – Madeleine

Limelight - MadeleineI had to go back to my September 2022 review of Limelight’s pre-debut Starlight to remember what this trio was all about. I guess I never got around to reviewing their most recent single Honestly, though I remember liking it when it came out early this year. But for all extents and purposes, I’m heading into new comeback Madeleine with a blank slate.

There are times when a blank slate pays off. Madeleine is a very pleasant surprise — a full-throated dance track delivered with a hearty series of vocals devoid of affectation. It’s not an idiosyncratic song, and this generic sheen may bore some listeners. However, Madeleine is constructed with classic ingredients. The chorus is catchy and robust, the production is straightforward and consistent, and the arrangement allows the track to swell and surge in all the right places.

Funny enough, this is the exact kind of emotive dance song I expected (and hoped for) from BBGirls. It just so happened to come a day late, in a different guise.

  1. Happy to see a review from you of this one. Not sure if you noticed, but it’s composed by Kim Seung-soo. That and the teasers evoked high hopes from my side, and gladly those were more than satisfied. I really like the layering of the instrumentals paired with those vocals, which result in an easy to listen and incredibly fun dance track.

    • I noticed myself coming back to this again and again today. Even if I don’t listen to it, I keep humming it in my head, haha. It’s really catchy. Looking forward to seeing how it holds up.

  2. Straight ahead uncomplicated pop music. I would put it closer to low 8 than high 8, but whatev.

For all intents and purposes, I prefer to listen this little intense burst of fun more than bigger songs from bigger groups with more extensive lore, that is to the extent that I listen to these.

  3. It’s a very nice track to listen to and the strengths of this group shine through. For now I haven’t added it to my playlist but like all their songs so far I feel that it has great potential for growth and that I’ll be humming it in a few days.

  4. I feel like all their songs sound slightly old fashioned, which actually makes them refreshing in this day and age. Eye to Eye was one of my favorite gg songs from last year and this one’s not bad either. I really like Suhye’s voice (she was a contestant on My Teenage Girl).
