Song Review: One Pact – Must Be Nice

One Pact - Must Be NicePrior to today’s debut, new boy group One Pact have dropped several pre-release songs. Unfortunately, none of this music has appealed to me (though I did enjoy member Jay Chang’s solo songs last month). After this series of more bombastic, performance-oriented tracks, the guys have pulled way back for Must Be Nice (좋겠다).

I’m surprised this is the song that marks One Pact’s official debut. From the music we’ve heard so far, it feels the least like a typical “single,” forgoing many of K-pop’s flashier aspects for a more understated sound. It’s well-performed (especially that vocal-heavy pre-chorus), but there’s nothing here that sparks my interest. In fact, after the first listen I could barely recall anything about the track!

Must Be Nice plods along a plonky beat during the verses before segueing into a drop-style EDM chorus reminiscent of 2017-era trends. There are moments of melodic flourish here and there, but the track struggles to find a centerpiece worth coming back for.

  1. the bar is very low but this is their best(?) song imo. I really don’t like Tag’s music for the group, they’re all so outdated. he clearly has the skills, he just needs better material and ideas to pull from.

  2. Im such a sucker for that 2017 edm drop chorus. Tbh the rest of the song is forgettable but i do love the chorus. I think id give this a 7.5 and its probably going on my playlist.

  3. Man I was really looking forward to this debut cause Lee Yedam was my first pick on Boys Planet. There’s a few songs on their EP I like but yeah pretty disappointed.

  4. I’m a bit surprised by the review since really I liked their debut, and I like how Tag is going with their sound. Must be nice fits my cup of tea from how nostalgic it sounds, kinda reminds me of I need u by bts and beautiful by wanna one. And maybe I’m a bit biased since I sincerely adore Jay’s vocals and the way they elevate the song. I totally will stay tuned to their future release if the album is consistently this good.

  5. I actually really like this, much more than ‘G.O.A.T’. I’m not surprised at the low rating you gave it though. It could most definitely do with some improvements. The really like the verses and I dig the chorus.

However, if they had built up the energy throughout the song and had a much much bigger climax, it would have been a much better song. The sudden halt after the first chorus doesn’t help.

    8/10 for me.
