Song Review: The Boyz (Sunwoo & Eric) – Honey

The Boyz (Sunwoo & Eric) - HoneyThe Boyz have recently started releasing music videos for unit tracks. Last summer’s Passion Fruit got one and now we have a stylish visual for Sunwoo and Eric’s hip-hop track Honey, originally released on the group’s November album. Apart from its excellent title track, that album didn’t resonate with me the same way Christmas In August did. But although Honey isn’t a style I tend to gravitate toward, it’s held up well over the weeks.

Honey‘s biggest assets are its smooth, catchy chorus and the charisma of its performers. It opens with a tease of its central hook, offering an instantly memorable vocal that (for whatever reason) reminds me of Megan Thee Stallion’s Body. It must be the repetition of the word “Honey”! From here, hip-hop verses give way to a slick pre-chorus before the track swerves into a fun, singalong chorus. All elements of the track revolve around the same series of melodic loops, and this establishes a hypnotic quality that almost begs to be replayed. It’s not the most striking song in The Boyz’ arsenal, but its stylish sound extends their 2023 victory lap into the new year.

  1. This song didn’t stand out to me either (and I generally dislike rap unit songs), but I stumbled across a fancam of this from their recent concert and yeah, the performance is fire. I also didn’t realize it was all in English. Supposedly Rat in the Trap is getting an MV so there’s another unit performance to look forward to.

  2. This song’s not their best. I wasn’t too fond of it when I listened to the album but seeing their concert clips and unit performance has made me come around.

I kinda wish it there was more rapping bc that’s what I was expecting when I heard it was the duo Sunwoo and Eric.

I’m more excited for the MV for ‘Rat In The Trap’. I also wish that ‘Bad Luck’ got an MV but I understand that it would be expensive to have 4 music videos. I shouldn’t be too greedy haha

  3. For some reason, I’ve been obsessed with this song since the album came out, even more than with Watch It, which I loved. I am thrilled it got an MV, promotions, and a review here haha
