Song Review: Rescene – Love Attack

RESCENE - Love AttackRescene made their debut during a busy week for new girl groups. Lumped alongside ILLIT, UNIS, Candy Shop and ME:I, their UhUh stood as the most promising track of the bunch. But without an album to develop this promise, it was difficult to put much stock into Rescene’s future. Thankfully, their first comeback Love Attack stands as an ever stronger highlight.

K-pop’s delivered a few great choruses lately, and Love Attack comfortably joins that group. Its verses are standard sing-talk, buoyed by a strutting beat and the natural charisma of the girls. But when we launch into the song’s extended hook, the energy really comes alive. First off, this chorus is lengthy and developed, taking time to luxuriate in its airy melodies. Second, the vocal layering adds texture and oomph that mark this segment as Love Attack‘s undisputed centerpiece.

Elsewhere, the track offers unexpected jolts of electric guitar. Each chorus ends with a burst of distortion — an element I would love to hear developed further. Verse two is also underlined by rock influence, adding interest to the segment without the need to shift or stall energy. If anything, Love Attack suffers the same issue as yesterday’s ZEROBASEONE comeback. Its finale could stand to be bigger and bolder, putting a true exclamation mark at the end of an otherwise enjoyable pop track.

  1. Man, I loved UhUh, and I definitely loved this too, even more! The chorus is just so beautifully hazy, like, it’s super dreamy. I also vibe with the rest of the song really well. But I really loved it!

    A straight 9 for me.

  2. I feel like it is an AI song. Or if not AI, a clever interpolation synthesis of top radio pop songs.

Snips of the rhythm from “Uptown funk you up, uptown funk you up” ( eg the opening lines). Snips of “Love me, love, say that you love me” from Cardigans- Love Fool. Is there a Kylie Minogue song in there too?

For what it is, the song came out OK. I mean, the source materials are classics.

    • You Sir understand about Music, which unfortunately is something which cannot be said about the reviewer here…

this song is clearly dull…a 5-6 max

and the video is so boring too…

  3. Loved the chorus, can’t even remember much else. The cadence/intonation they use for ‘I am all you need’ is so reminiscent to me, but I can’t quite place it (maybe in Somi’s song ‘Fast Fordward’ where she goes ‘head to toe’, but it could be something else). Also it’s funny how I recognized a few locations from aespa’s Spicy (the large street , the water fountain hotel place, and the pink car), it was definitely unexpected.

    • The cadence is from “Uptown Funk”

As for the scenes, yeah its funny how scenes from out and around Korea get used and reused, beyond the usual empty parking garage. The helipad, the grassy field with windmills, the empty round concrete building interior, the amusement park, the shipping containers, and more!

  4. this is a straight-up k-pop bop!….i would give it an A, in not an A+….i love their vocals, the energy in the video, the rhythm and beat of the song, their smiles (love when i see groups having fun and enjoying what they do!)….and their chemistry together….

i am really starting to like this group….looking for more from them for sure!

  5. the chorus is so dreamy and airy, it immediately reminded me of being back in the good old 2nd-3rd gen kpop days with full choruses. wish the verses weren’t so hodge podge but i feel like the company is investing a lot into rescene’s musical direction which i can applaud them for. idk how to describe it but they have a classy/glittery feel with a deep bass guitar. i just love that their music isn’t afraid to embrace INSTRUMENTS. also, for a nugu group, they really went out on this american mv LOL
