Unwrapping 2024’s K-pop Holiday Tracks: Keep Or Return?

2019 K-Pop Christmas Songs
Following a tradition first established in 2020, I’m celebrating the holidays today with the opening of gifts. These packages come in the form of seasonal K-pop tracks not yet reviewed on the blog.

Like last year, I’m either keeping the gifts or planning to return them. Unfortunately, there was a lot of coal in the stocking this time!

I’ll see you later today for a write-up on the SBS Gayo Daejun. Happy Holidays!

BANG&JUNG&YOO&MOON – Christmas With You

It’s definitely sleepy, but this is the one time of year I have room for this jazzy style. Unfortunately, there’s just not enough going on with the melodies for me.

Verdict: Return

Brand New Music Artists – Make It New

It’s refreshing to get a New Year’s song amidst all the Christmas fare, but otherwise this is a skip.

Verdict: Return

Chungha – There Goes Santa Claus!

This is really fun and jaunty.

Verdict: Keep

Dreamcatcher – My Christmas Sweet Love

This is not the group I’d expect to do a Christmas track! This works quite well, though.

Verdict: Keep

FAVE1 – Christmas Kiss

A bit toothless, even for a Christmas song.

Verdict: Return

Hyojung (Oh My Girl) – Hot December

It’s just a bit boring, unfortunately.

Verdict: Return

Jooan (TAN) – Because It’s Christmas

Repetitive as hell, but I like the energy.

Verdict: Keep

Kei (Lovelyz) – Winter Garden

We need her official solo debut because this is not tiding me over.

Verdict: Return

Moonbyul – Make It Christmas

The sleigh bells are here to save the day, but otherwise this is too sleepy for me.

Verdict: Return

NCHIVE – NChristmAs!

No thank you.

Verdict: Return

ONEWE – We X Mas

This feels like it could be played all year long but unfortunately I find it a little dull.

Verdict: Return

Super Junior-D&E – Jingle Jingle

That chorus is a definite chop.

Verdict: Return

Twice – Magical

This is quite pleasant. I’ll always love a chugging synth beat.

Verdict: Keep

TWS – Highlight (Holiday Version)

I much prefer the original mix, but I’m not about to return any gift TWS delivers.

Verdict: Keep

Young Posse – Street Carol… (with John Park)

I did not expect this to be so… serious?

Verdict: Return

  1. I finally found this Japanese Christmas classic I’ve been looking for. To me, this is up there with the best (i.e. Infinite, EXO). I don’t think it’s on Spotify, so it took me awhile to figure out who sang it.

  2. Despite my highlight of Twice’s recent EP being Kiss My Troubles Away, I find myself ended up repeating Magical.
Like I love the retro-ish touch on the Christmas song.

  3. Listening to these, for me the keepers are by TWICE and ChungHa. I just wish they weren’t 100% in English, that’ll probably keep them off my playlists.

  4. I think that of these tracks the only ones I evaluated were Bang&Jung&Yoo&Moon and Hyojung’s song. There were some on this list that I wrote down but they weren’t promoted very well. Well, I can’t say that this is something new for December in K-Pop…

Merry Christmas to everyone at TheBiasList. My Christmas was ordinary. I’m not very excited about celebrating dates to be honest

  5. This feels like it could be played all year wrong but unfortunately I find it a little dull.

is that a typo lmao 😭

I love that you included the Highlight remix!

  6. There are 2 definitive Christmas songs for me (aside from the classics)

    1. SKY-HI & CHANMINA = Holy Moly Holy Night (very funky & cheeky with the twist of celebrating Christmas on Armageddon with your enemy! Both sound good too)
    2. back number – The Christmas Song (very classic romantic soppy look at Christmas and love – Christmas done right imo!)

    • Honestly this feels like such a flex by 100RED, as if they’re meaning to say “look at this roster of artists we have assembled over our various sub-labels”. And you know what it worked, I was suitably impressed/intimidated.

As for the song itself, it’s really well done! They did a good job fitting everyone in it, including their 7-member rookie girl group. And the video is, um… it’s a whole journey.

  7. Everytime I read something about the Young Posse christmas song I remember there was originally also supposed to be another song called ‘Santa Claus is coming to hood’ that got scrapped for… obvious reasons. I wonder what it would’ve sounded like, with such a song title.

  8. I’m liking this Dreamcatcher Christmas mini more than Villains/Versus and almost as much as Virtuous. I don’t know how I feel about this. They’re my ult group but I haven’t loved anything they’ve done in a while.

That said, OT7 Jazz Bar. Aww yeah.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays Nick!
