Song Review: RIIZE – 9 Days

RIIZE - 9 DaysWell, what a nice surprise! Not only have RIIZE released three new b-sides from their first mini album, but they’ve recorded behind-the-scenes music videos for two of them. In both sound and execution, One Kiss and 9 Days are definitely not title tracks, but I still think they each deserve a mini-review.

Compared to One Kiss‘s classic pop melodies, 9 Days feels more in line with today’s trends. It’s a thumping dance track, but one that also makes room for a rap verse and sudden changes in energy. Compared to the straightforward blast of Impossible, these switch-ups feel a little fussy and unnecessary, but 9 Days‘ catchy chorus is always lurking around the corner.

I’m not one hundred percent sold on the song’s main melody yet, but I absolutely love the outro refrain. This portion could have been developed further, as the song ends abruptly after two and a half minutes. I would have loved to hear more of those great synth textures, but I suppose the track’s brief running time only makes you press replay to get back to that fantastic finale as soon as possible.

  1. RIIZE adding more stellar songs to their amazing discography we love to see it.

I honestly wish they just drop the album already; the songs are looking great so far. It might surpass NMIXX’s album as my k-pop AOTY 👀.

  2. With this build up I really wish their chorus have a more solid instrumental to compensate with what it built on verse. 8 for me.

  3. Both of the new b-sides have a nostalgic, classic boyband energy, and this one especially gave me strong One Direction vibes. Really enjoyed both tracks! I think One Kiss’s streamlined energy is a bit more up my alley (already obsessed with the post chorus refrain on first listen), but 9 Days is not far behind!

I could’ve gone without the second-verse breakdown, but it is not too harsh for me, and I am sure it will quickly grow on me past the point where I find it interruptive. I totally agree that the outro section could double down and provide a stronger climax by finishing at 3 minutes, but it surely gives the song an addictive quality that makes me want to replay it right away!

It’s been a while since I’ve felt so excited about a new boygroup, I can’t wait for the album to drop ( I really hope there are at least two new b-sides after the TT’s release, though!)
