Mighty Mouth is a male duo that’s been active in the kpop world for eight years, minus time for their mandatory military conscription. Despite being such an established act, the reason I suspect most modern fans would be interested in checking this song out is that it was produced by Block B’s Zico.
It’s probably a bit biased to say this, but Zico’s production is Nice 2 Meet U‘s biggest strength. Not that the instrumental is overly fancy or unique, but the simple, abrasive synth that takes over the chorus works wonders to make the hook seem bigger than it is. I can’t help but wonder how successful it could have been if paired with a melody as inventive as Block B’s own Toy. As it stands, we have a standard hip-hop party refrain, delivered by Soya (though it could have been sung by pretty much any female vocalist to similar effect). The hip hop verses are lively and fun, but lack any truly memorable punchline or unique flow that would help the song stand out.
Though Mighty Mouth isn’t quite as seasoned a group, Nice 2 Meet U reminds me a bit of Jinusean’s Tell Me One More Time from last year. It has a similar throwback sound that’s carried off effectively, if a bit generically. This all adds up to a track that would sound nice on the radio, but I’m not sure that I’d ever seek out beyond that.
