Last time IVE pre-released a song, I initially dismissed it as too noisy and repetitive. Kitsch has gone on to become one of my biggest growers of the year, proving the power of this ascendant group. This time around, Either Way is the first of two pre-release tracks leading up to IVE’s first EP next month.
Those expected a big, brash return will have to wait for one of the other promoted songs. Either Way pulls things way back. This contemplative synth ballad contrasts with IVE’s singles run so far. The tempo is sluggish, the tone is moody, and the melodies are subdued. On the plus side, this approach offers a peek at IVE’s versatility, shining a welcome spotlight on their vocalists. The girls sound lovely on the track, offering a more nuanced performance than their more bombastic material allows.
As a song, I find Either Way pretty but dull. It succeeds at what it’s trying to do, but its modest ambitions limit the overall effect. This is no polarizing Kitsch situation. Either Way‘s delicate sound is unlikely to turn anyone off. And as a pre-release, it certainly builds interest in where IVE are going next. However, the song doesn’t build to many memorable moments. This seems to be by design, so it’s hard to fault the track in that way. I suppose I’ll just bide my time until IVE’s next ‘Big Pop Moment’ rolls around. After all, it can’t be far behind.

It’s a great melody a bit too repetitive but the production is gorgeous and reminded me of Lana Del Rey’s Born To Die Era.

The song is alright. Nothing too special going on here but the music video looks good

the bridge could’ve been more dynamic, but I still like it a lot

I don’t know what this song is, but I am going to call it a fan service song in a weirdly languid tempo, and move on.

The song is very boring. Like nice message, but unfortunately been there done that is what came to my mind. It’s even more off putting when you are reminded that it may not have had their opinions included in the song. It’s still a well produced song. The MV immediately made me think of YG 2016 but not in a bad way, just in a nostalgic manner. This song just made me want to relisten to my 2016 catelouge with songs like we are the hearts by ex gf. I am glad anybody in kpop tried this sound at all.

It’s not their first mini. It’s their first ep.
