As usual, Golden Child gets the “bias group advantage” on this site. This means not only their title track and a buried treasure will be reviewed, but I’ll be taking a look at the entire new mini album Take A Leap. Check back over the next five days, as I tackle the songs one at a time.

OMG
Based on little more than Take A Leap‘s tracklist, OMG was the song I was most looking forward to. This excitement is entirely due to the producers involved. OMG is a LEEZ/Ollounder track. They’ve done some work with Golden Child before, but are most well known as the architects behind the discographies of ATEEZ and Dreamcatcher. I’ve longed for them to produce a title track for Golcha, and I think that’s a real possibility sometime in the future.
For now, we have OMG, which is a swerve in direction for both Golden Child and these producers. The song is a total 80’s synth-pop pastiche, pulsing on a throwback electro groove with chopped vocal ad-libs and a supremely nostalgic melody as its centerpiece. It should come as no surprise that this is like musical catnip to me (a forever passionate lover of 80’s music). With that said, for once I think it was a smart decision to go with the darker song as a title track. OMG is bright and buoyant, but probably too one-note to be successful in the context of Korean promotions.
However, this won’t stop me from playing this over and over again. In OMG‘s case, the consistency of the production is a total asset. The song feels no need to trudge into unnecessary musical diversions. Even the rap verses are underlined by the same joyful synth percussion. This becomes even more rhythmically satisfying when the instrumental is stripped to its bare bones during the bridge, only to build back up for the final chorus. Given its timeless appeal, I have a feeling OMG will only grow more addictive as the summer goes on.

Great mini album.
My favorites are tracks 3,4,5 and 6 and I would rate them 9 and above so I’m incredibly happy.
If I have to choose my absolute favorite it would be ķ¼ģ£ė§ (Moment). Do you all have that moment too when you just listen to an incredibly satisfying song and just pause for a minute and feel sated and happy? That’s what this song did to me.

oK, this gives me a good hearty chuckle. Its like DeBarge does kpop. I don’t know how much I will listen to it again, but for 4 minutes there I was quite entertained.

This song should ‘ve been the title track! I Love this track soooooo much! Too- one note? the production is too perfect and backs that up! Once again , This Golden Child master piece is awesome!
