Top Three K-Pop Songs of April 2017

Monthly Round-UpAt the end of each month, I look back at my three favorite title tracks by k-pop artists. I take my own ratings into account, but there’s a bit of wiggle room as certain songs tend to grow or fade.

April 2017 Overall Thoughts

2017 continues to fall behind when compared to last year. Though it was easy to decide on my top three of the month — and it’s actually a very strong top three — April was taken over by k-pop’s annual spring syndrome. Lots of sleepy songs with low ambition, each jockeying to replicate the success of lucrative springtime singles of the past. None came close, but luckily there were a few other diamonds in the rough. DAY6 continues to impress with their monthly comebacks, and YG actually got it together enough to give us new music from two of its artists (though neither of these releases were particularly memorable). At this point, May needs to sweep in and give 2017 a kick in the butt.
